The lawsuit has been filed by New York Times where they have blamed Microsoft and OpenAI for using their articles on a massive scale without seeking any permission.

Times has reported in the court that OpenAI and Microsoft's developed language models can replicate Times' content, write its articles very similarly, and duplicate much of their styling.

Content from different paths was used to generate AI models while using the work of "Times" was given more importance due to its value.

The Times is seeking a giveaway of dollars from the companies in damages, providing that their content should not be used by them to train their AIs.

Microsoft and OpenAI reportedly trained their models with a dataset that included information from The New York Times without any prior consent. Some notable news channels such as CNN, BBC and Reuters have barred OpenAI from accessing their content through web crawling in the last few months.

Yet some of the latest publications emphasize supporting the use of work by OpenAI. The Associated Press has been given rights to use their content regarding news stories for the last 2 years; other companies like Politico and Business Insider also followed the same path.
